@crossingthethreshold It is really not 100% factually true from what we know from neuroscience, as we are pre-wired for so much. Evolutionary pressures have shaped the way our body and brain develops, and so our minds are primed to work in certain ways.
But even if the statement is not factually correct, I think it does point to an important truth, which is that even though our minds are primed, the degree to which they can develop within (and away from!) that priming is nothing short of incredible.
I mean, even considering the constructed "self" that the article discusses, there's whole meditative traditions which goal is to de-construct it and have the experience of a mind free of it.
